- X-rays
- Oral Cancer ScreeningOur Canandaigua, NY dental office takes a holistic approach to dental care, including oral cancer screening as part of your regular exam. We conduct a quick, simple screening to detect early signs of oral cancer and recommend a biopsy if necessary. Preventing oral cancer involves avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol, protecting your skin and lips from the sun, and maintaining a healthy diet. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment. Ask your dentist for an oral cancer screening during your next appointment.
- Teeth CleaningYour regular exam will take about 45 minutes. Each regular exam includes a detailed teeth cleaning, in which we will clean, polish, and rinse your teeth to remove any tartar and plaque that has built up on the tooth’s surface.
- Fluoride TreatmentYour child should visit the dentist every six months for regular dental cleanings and checkups. We also recommend fluoride treatments along with cleanings to keep teeth their strongest. Tooth sealants are also recommended because they “seal” the deep grooves in your child’s teeth, preventing decay from forming in these hard-to-reach areas. Sealants last for several years, but will be monitored at your child’s regular checkups.

- Fillings
- VeneersDental veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made shells bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They are a superb solution for addressing various cosmetic concerns, including chipped, discolored, misaligned, or unevenly spaced teeth. Veneers can provide you with a beautifully enhanced smile that looks and feels entirely natural.
- CrownsA crown is a restorative procedure used to improve your tooth’s shape or to strengthen a tooth, and is most often used for teeth that are broken, worn or no longer have enough strength remaining to hold a filling. Unlike fillings, which are applied directly to the tooth, a crown is fabricated in a lab based on an impression of your tooth as well as all aspects of your jaw movements and bite.
- BridgesIt is always our first priority to keep your natural teeth, whether through repair or restoration options. There are times, however, when a tooth needs to be removed. For example, if a baby tooth has misshapen or long roots that prevent it from falling out as it should, the tooth must be removed to make way for the permanent tooth to erupt. Or, a permanent tooth may have so much decay that it puts the surrounding teeth at risk of decay as well. In this case, your doctor may recommend removing the tooth and replacing it with an implant or dental bridge.
- Dental BondingIf you’re ready to transform your smile with dental bonding, schedule an appointment with Dr. Geoffry Hallstead, DMD, in Canandaigua, NY. We look forward to helping you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted!
- Root Canal TreatmentReceiving a crown requires two visits. During the first, the doctor will likely start with x-rays to determine whether a root canal is needed first, then prep the tooth (using anesthetic to numb the area) either by reshaping it along the sides and chewing surface in order to make room for the crown, or by building up a severely decayed tooth to better support a crown. They’ll also take the impression to send to the lab. You’ll also receive a temporary crown to protect the tooth, which will be sensitive.
- Deep CleaningExperience efficient periodontal disease treatment with ultrasonic scaling technology, reducing treatment time and minimizing tissue trauma for a more comfortable experience. Say goodbye to painful procedures and extended chair time – our advanced technology makes scaling and root planning a faster and more comfortable option. Contact us for more information and schedule an appointment for a quicker, less traumatic treatment with faster gum tissue healing.
- DenturesPartial dentures, also sometimes referred to as a removable bridge, are attached to your natural teeth using a metal frame and are used to fill in gaps where permanent teeth are missing. They include replacement false teeth that are attached to a gum-colored plastic base and are used when enough natural teeth remain to hold it in place. Partial dentures are beneficial for not only cosmetic fixes to missing teeth, but also for preventing other surrounding teeth from drifting into the gaps.
- Dental ImplantsPeople are living longer than ever, and while regular brushing, flossing, and checkups allow many of us to maintain our natural smiles for a lifetime, sometimes our teeth just can’t keep up. If you’ve lost a tooth (or a few teeth) due to injury or disease, dental implants can rejuvenate both your smile and your oral health.
- Oral Surgery
- Tooth Extractions
- Bone GraftingWhen a tooth needs to be removed due to infection, it is not uncommon to have lost bone around the infected tooth. In these cases, the area may not be suitable for facilitating a dental implant. To make the tooth socket strong enough for an implant post, we offer various types of bone grafting that can be done at the same time the tooth is removed. Once the area is strong enough, the implant can safely be placed.
- OrthodonticsDuring dental bonding, a resin filling is “bonded” onto a tooth that’s slightly chipped, discolored or crooked in order to improve its appearance. Bonding can also be used to fill in large gaps between teeth (as opposed to wearing braces or other orthodontics.) It’s considered a conservative treatment and doesn’t usually require anesthesia.
- BracesOther reasons that could require a tooth to be pulled include removing wisdom teeth, infection and crowding. If you’re in need of braces or other orthodontia, your doctor may recommend removing one or two teeth in order to make the correction. And finally, patients in need of organ transplants, chemotherapy or other major procedures may need to remove any less-than-perfect teeth in order to maintain optimal oral health.
- Teeth WhiteningIf you want to achieve a brighter, whiter smile, you have many options. It’s important to choose the method that’s best for you, however, the choices can be overwhelming. We recommend starting any teeth-whitening regimen by scheduling an appointment with your dentist. Dr. Hallstead understands the differences between in-office, professional whitening and at-home whitening, and can help answer any questions or concerns you may have.
