General Info
The Cabot Star-Herald, Lonoke Democrat and Carlisle Independent are all members of Stephens Media's Central Arkansas Newspapers, a group of nine weekly newspapers situated at the heart of The Natural State. With rich history and a strong dedication to community, "refrigerator" news, we want to be your local newspaper. All three Lonoke County newspapers have seen the old and the new. The Democrat dates back to the 1870s, and the Independent is over 100 years old! The Cabot Herald was founded in 1923. In 1955, Cone and Betty Magie founded the Cabot Star. The Magies purchased the Herald in 1956 and consolidated the two papers as Cabot Star-Herald The Magies would build a group of newspapers that would eventually include the Lonoke Democrat, Carlisle Independent, Jacksonville Patriot ( formerly Jacksonville Daily News ) and Sherwood Voice. In 2006, after the death of Cone Magie, the family sold their five newspapers to the Stephens family of Arkansas. Stephens Media LLC had also recently acquired The Times of North Little Rock and the Maumelle Monitor. As the media industry changes, we must adapt to new technologies but not abandon the old. We hope that this Web site is not only informative, but also reflective of our commitment to give you the news that you respect in fascinating and relevant ways. Above all, we want to know what our readers want. Please contact us with suggestions or comments.
