Ryan Michaels Academy (RMA), a school for children with developmental disabilities, opened its doors in September 2009 in Montville, New Jersey. We believe that each child has the capacity for problem solving and critical thinking, and that individual talents can be harnessed given the proper supports. Our program is designed to foster the individual strengths of each student, developing their full potential across academic, social and vocational domains. Because the challenges of developmental disabilities are individualized and complex, we recognize the need for a person-centered approach. Each student at RMA receives instruction and support tailored specifically to individual learning profile. Our programs incorporate a variety of techniques and strategies based upon each child's strengths and needs. Our learning environment is multi-sensory, and incorporates project-based learning within a parallel curriculum model. Students receive targeted interventions beginning upon their entry at the age of 5, and continuing through 21.
