Michael D. Steiner M. D., is the sole owner of Island Vision and Cosmetic Surgery (www.islandvision.us) providing comprehensive eye care and cosmetic facial surgery to people of all ages. He has practiced in the Seattle, Washington area since 1986. After graduating with honors from Cornell University in 1977, he attended Cornell University Medical College where he received his Doctor of Medicine 1981. A love for reconstructive surgery led Dr. Steiner to pursue a residency in Ophthalmology, followed by post-graduate training in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery. Since arriving in Seattle, Dr. Steiner has been enjoying the challenges of comprehensive ophthalmology and oculoplastic surgery. He has published several articles in professional journals on external disease of the eye and innovative approaches to problems in plastic surgery, and is the author of "Care and Feeding of the Plastic Surgery Patient", the only instructional book of its kind for cosmetic surgeons who perform surgery within their own offices. Dr. Steiner has interrupted his practice from time to time to make excursions to distant places; performing cataract surgery in Brazil, providing urgent medical care for displaced Cambodians in Southern Thailand, and reaching into his doctor's bag in places like India, Nepal, and China. His interests are diverse but unwavering in their focus on community. He has made a firm personal commitment to care for the inner city indigent population of Seattle, and devotes time to the Seattle arts community. Having brought from his birthplace of New York City a love for opera and ballet, his name can be found engraved among those of the principal donors to the Marion McCaw Opera House. He also brought with him an intensity and passion for the outdoors which has been indulged by climbing many of the beautiful summits surrounding Seattle, bicycle racing, hiking, and skiing. As a lifelong student, the challenges of music and oil painting have been unending, but with a camera in hand Dr. Steiner recently participant in Bridges to Understanding, a photographic mission to the Tibetan Childrens Village in Dharamsala, India. Felt very rushed through my appointment with Dr. Steiner even though there was no one in the waiting room. My appointment was very brief. I thought it would be a warm caring environment, mainly because the dog lives there too, but was sadly mistaken. No bedside manners, very cold and brisk personality and the staff was very curt. Will not go back.

I've been seeing Dr. Steiner for many years and have never had a bad experience in his office. His office staff is very friendly and caring and has gone out of their way to help me several times. Dr. Steiner talks with you and makes sure you have all of your questions answered before you leave your appointment.

Dr. Steiner is a wonderful eye doctor that provides an excellent standard of care. Lately he has become the target of one woman?s harassment. She is posting abusive comments on many many review sites and updating them on a weekly basis. There is basically no stopping her. I have tried contacting the sites myself weekly in an attempt to help Dr. Steiner clear his good name but some of the sites are just not capable of removing her slander in a timely manner. It is my hope that you will recognize her Internet stalking and take it upon yourself to create your own opinion about Dr. Steiner. He is very thorough in eye exams, and will always answer any questions you may have. There is no rushing you out of the office and you are never left wondering what is going on. Dr. Steiner helped my Grandmother with a very complex problem and also recommended a wonderful surgeon for my Grandfathers Cataract surgery in addition to completing his excellent follow up care.

Wonderful practice, great staff. Dr. Steiner is a very caring and compassionate ophthalmologist. It is not just a cold visit to the eye doctor when you come to his office. He treats everything from sports injuries to a "cold in the eye". Dr. Steiner has never failed to work in a patient at the last minute or even stayed late just to make sure that you get the hang of your new contact lenses. He explains more comprehensive things like glaucoma in detail and stresses the importance of yearly eye exams. There is a reason he is our families eye doc!
