The Buffalo Police Department provides law enforcement services and works to maintain a peaceful and safe environment. It is comprised of more than 30 full- and part-time officers. The department maintains a communication center that undertakes various police, fire, and medical emergency and nonemergency calls for service. The Buffalo Police Department also operates investigation, records and patrol units. It handles various cases related to identity theft. The department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an educational classroom program that helps to prevent drug abuse and violence among children. The Buffalo Police Department supports Crime Stoppers, National Night Out and neighborhood watch programs. It employs a school resource officer and conducts a ride along program.
