First let me say, I have spent approximately $6000 at the store in this Brooklyn alone over the past 2 years. I went in last Friday evening to purchase a 43 inch TV (which I did buy). On the same visit I brought along a remote for an Apple TV. The salesperson attempted to sync the remote to a Apple TV unit in the store and after 30 seconds told me it was the battery. He picked out battery pack for me and I asked him, thinking if it wasnt too much to just buy a replacement remote, Can I return the battery pack if changing the battery doesnt work? and he clearly said YES. I tried replacing the battery when I got home and it didnt work. I returned to the store 3 days later to return the battery pack and buy a new remote and was told at the Returns counter We dont take back open battery packs. Our system wont let me do it I explained thats not what the salesman told me. I asked for the manager and Dimitri came to the counter. I explained the situation and showed him my receipt which included $319.99 sale for a TV besides the $6.49 for the battery pack. Totally professionally but mechanically without sympathy or empathy simply repeated several times We dont take back open battery packs.I left thinking- lessons to be learned:1.in managing customer relationships absolute rules dont really work as well as empowered employees and especially managers2.its easier to keep a good customer than to find a new one3.untrained employees will kill your business4.donts shop at Best Buy if you have other options5.if you do shop at Best Buy get a second and maybe a third opinion6.if you have a return at Best Buy, hope for the best and plan for the worst7.Its not a $6000 sale that keeps you in business, its what you do with a $6.99 return
Great store for all computer needs and office needs.
