The bacteria attacks the host and triggers the dog’s immune system to start fighting against the disease. Some common signs of borreliosis (Lyme Disease) are fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, and shifting leg lameness. The treatment for the disease is an antimicrobial drug that should start clearing symptoms in 24 to 72 hours. Prevention of the disease includes limited exposure to wooded areas and tall grasses. Check your pet over daily for ticks. Always apply monthly prevention for fleas and ticks and Lyme vaccine. We offer Nexgard, Bravecto, and Simparica Trio as flea and tick prevention products.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlHeartworms can be found in all 50 states. Dirofilaria Immitis is a worm that is transmitted from mosquitoes to your pet when they are bitten by an infected mosquito. Animals who spend a lot of time outdoors, traveling, and who live near or with an infected animal are at a higher risk for infection. Common clinical signs of heartworm disease include exercise intolerance, coughing/wheezing, and poor haircoat. Heartworm test can be run to diagnose the disease, if positive, recovery is possible although it takes several months. Giving your pet heartworm preventatives year round is the best way to protect them. Puppies are able to start Heartworm prevention at 8 weeks of age.
