- Nutritional CounselingMy care includes: complete prenatal, home birth and postpartum care for mother and child. Nutritional counseling, prental testing and recommendations and assistance in using alternative therapies such herbs and homeopathy, nutrition, meditation, hydrotherapy, exercise, massage and yoga to help achieve and maintain a health pregnancy. Each prenatal visit with me, is an hour long. I see you each month until 30 weeks of pregnancy and then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks. The visits then become weekly until the time of birth.
- Pediatric CareMidwives are trained to provide care for moms and babies-both during the pregnancy and after the birth! I provide a complete newborn exam within a few hours after birth. If anything is not normal, I will let you know and we will discuss whether your baby needs to be seen by a pediatric care provider right away. I ask that all families select a pediatric care provider by 36 weeks gestation, and that you know how to reach that provider urgently. Most babies do not need to be seen immediately, within the first week is fine. You are encouraged to get the rest you need following birth.
- PregnancyMy home birth services are devoted to providing comprehensive, holistic care and support throughout the pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding experience for those families choosing home birth. I am committed to creating an environment where a woman and her family feels nurtured, safe and secure, where their personal preferences are respected and their physical and emotional well being are enhanced. I practice “watchful guarding” of the natural process of pregnancy and childbirth, offering sensitive support and gentle encouragement, while intervening only as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of mother and baby.
- Labor and DeliveryAs a midwife I approach childbirth as a natural, sacred event in a woman’s life. I truly believe that our bodies were made exquisitely to conceive, grow and birth a child, and if supported to do so, we can bring our babies into the world in such a way that brings out a strength in us, we didn’t know we were capable of. When a woman is made to feel this way, it carries over to every part of her mothering. She becomes a more confident woman and mother in every aspect of her life.
- Mental HealthThe requirements for a home birth include good physical and mental health, maintaining low medical risk and a normally progressing pregnancy. - UltrasoundAn ultrasound is a useful tool but is not routinely necessary in a healthy pregnancy. Some reasons an ultrasound may be recommended include uncertain dates, vaginal bleeding, possibility of twins, abdominal pain, decreased fetal movement.
