The Public Utilities Department is a division of the city government of Boone, N.C. The department operates and maintains fire hydrants, water booster pump stations and water storage tanks. The department handles cases related to repairing and replacing water and sewer leaks and taking water meter reading. It also focuses on reducing grease discharge in the sewage system. The Public Utilities Department s water treatment facility treats more than 3 million gallons of water per day. Its operation division deals in installation and maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The Public Utilities Department additionally offers a water conservation education program that includes tips to reduce the water usage.
