Minutes before meeting John for a half-day fishing trip, my friend and I were chatting with a local on Pine Island. When we said we were going fishing with John, the gentleman said that if anyone can find fish, it's John. He was right. Our catch included trout, snook, and something John suggested was inedible (ladyfish?). Fishing aside, John is an easy-going, funny, and patient guide who catered to our every need. My friend was initially reluctant to go, but both she and I had a fantastic experience. Highly recommended. P.S. If you're staying at the Tarpon Lodge, make sure to bring your catch back to the Inn. John will filet the fish and the chefs will prepare a fantastic meal. P.P.S. Prior to booking, John assured us that we would not pay a cent if we didn't catch any fish.

Had a two day trip in May with Capt. John. 1 day inshore/1 day offshore and had a blast! Redfish and Snook the first day. On the second day I caught my first permit! We caught several snapper and grouper but the permit made the trip. Doug T.
We just got back from spending 5 hours with this outfit. It is an outfit of one. Our vacation ruined by the lack of service in this charter. We caught 0 fish....we lost a lot of bait and got some bent hooks. The equipment was poor. There were 6 of us and we made that clear. $600 and 5 hours later, the fishing experience was horrible. We spent a lot idle time waiting on baitnand setuo. At one point, capt John was also fishing and could not get anything. I suggested we used spoons since i caught lots of kingfish with spoons before and he dismisssed it. He threw buckets of fish bait (dead and alive) and in all the years fishing i have never seen that. Now i am $600 short and had to drive to the store to buy fish. This is no joke. If i go to ft. Myers again, ill drive to Sarasota to fish....they never fail. This guy was just not good. Very sorry and embarrased with the friends and kids that were fishing for their first time ever. Their reels would not work right.
