General Info
Morningside Ministries, located in San Antonio, Texas is the area’s oldest and largest not-for-profit, faith-based organization providing a full continuum of care for seniors in multiple retirement communities. Since 1961, Morningside Ministries has been a community leader, offering affordable retirement living for seniors in a comfortable, caring environment where all residents and their families are welcomed and valued. Morningside Ministries owns and operates all of its communities, and welcomes persons of all faiths. The faith-based mission of Morningside Ministries is to enhance the dignity and quality of life of older adults, their families, and caregivers with compassionate care. Morningside Ministries was created with the specific mission of caring for those who cared for us. The ministry was founded in 1961 by the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church and joined five years later by First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio and the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas. Over the years, Morningside Ministries has grown to offer a full continuum of care and include multiple distinct and gracious communities that are home to more than 800 residents. We strive to meet the individual, physical, spiritual, emotional and intellectual needs of each of our residents and their families. Morningside Ministries is a caring community of experienced, dedicated professionals committed to serving each resident. Housing and services available at Morningside Ministries include independent living apartments and cottages, assisted living apartments, memory care for residents with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, 24-hour skilled nursing care and rehabilitation. The origin of Morningside Ministries dates back to the mid-1950s with a resolution by the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church on May 27, 1957 to create a board of managers for the establishment, maintenance, operation and management of homes for the elderly. The San Antonio Board included 30 members, 12 of whom were ministers, and began searching for land and developing plans for a home and a hospital in the area. The hospital was later developed as Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, and the home, Morningside Manor. Today, Morningside Ministries offers comfortable senior living at The Manor, The Meadows, Chandler Estate and Menger Springs. These locations span from the heart of San Antonio to the rolling Texas Hill Country in Boerne.
