Unexpectedly great!

I met a some friends here. When I arrived, the outside appearance was not promising. However, from all the cars parked outside and my friends' recommendation, I figured the food must be good. I was not disappointed! The lasagna was awesome, with plenty to take some home. My friend said anything she has ever ordered there has been great. I didn't have room for dessert, but my friends did and said the tiramisu tasted as good as it looked. Service was just as great as the food!

Magnifico I love food and specifically I love this food. I try to stray away from lasagna from restaurants because, in my experience, the sauce is too sweet. Not the case here. Nice zesty and flavorful.

I'm am brutal with restaurant evaluations. My expectation was that we'd have a very competent meal. That's fine by me. What I found is that all the food is made with care, thought and excellent ingredients. My wife ordered the Italian sausage and it was seasoned amazingly well. The crab cakes were phenomenal and their 'southwestern sauce' did a great job of enhancing, not overpowering the crabcakes. My seafood alfredo had the best shrimp and scallops I've had outside of the coasts. Even my son's veal scallopini was a pleasant surprise. Just an amazingly pleasant surprise. Even the salads were very good, though a bit less salt in the house dressing would be my only suggestion. It was just nice to be in a little place, tucked away, that really cared about the food they made and it showed. Worth every penny.

Family Italian food at its finest. Beningo's is off the beaten path of restaurants, so you won't find it by driving restaurant row. Great character and outstanding service. We enjoyed their homemade sausages and canneloni. Delicious breads and homemade salad dressing. MMMM. And don't the forget the spumoni and canolli's!

Notably good service experience. Great cannoli!

Only open evenings, great food and service. Real family-run feel. Best Italian food I've found since moving to the midwest.

Notably good service experience

As an east coast transplant, I had often heard local friends tell me much they enjoyed Beningo's -- the food, the service, etc -- so I decided to go with them. I have now visited the restaurant two or three times, and here's my take ...Food -- Good food with large portions. It's a reasonable value for the money, but it's not the "great" tasting food that had been represented to me by local friends. It can be a little pricey if you're expecting inexpensive food to match the inexpensive faux leather, dropped tile-ceiling decor. For two people, expect to spend $30-$40 with tax & tip.Service -- Excellent. Wait staff is friendly, informal and attentive.Atmosphere -- Fair. It's hard to find a 90-degree angle on any of the ceilings or walls or floors. Atmosphere reminds me of a VFW or American Legion hall. Location in an otherwise completely residential neighborhood is a little odd, but quaint. Parking can be an issue, particularly on the weekends in the restaurant lot.
