If anyone is looking for a lunch destination after driving around the countryside on a pleasant day, give The Bakery a try. I had the chicken salad on homemade pumpernickel bread. Stuffed with chicken, the salad had nice flavor; the bread was soft and delicious. For $4.50 it comes with a bag of potato chips AND a cookie that was a chewy, yummy treat (special of the day was only $4). If I'd have known about the cookie, I wouldn't have purchased a dessert, but I'm glad I didn't. I had the "square" stuffed with raspberries and cream cheese in a flaky crust; my friend had the "rectangle" with frosting oozing out of it (and sprinkles). The donuts looked great, but hey, I like to eat healthy....oh, they have homemade cakes I was told are very good. I bet they are. The place is in an old bank, and an impressive safe door stands ajar on the south side. There are lots of tables set up for cozy talking, and there was a fireplace behind me. One of those places you thought were all gone!
