Black Mountain Recreation and Parks A Living Legacy...Preservation, Recreation, Quality of Life! The Black Mountain community places a strong emphasis on the provision of quality recreation and parks services. The beautiful natural environment of the surrounding mountains provide the perfect backdrop for the year-round recreational opportunities. In an effort to carry out their mission and to provide for the enhancement of mountain living, the Black Mountain Recreation and Parks Department provides a variety of recreation and leisure activities, special events, facilities and parks that contribute to health, fitness, relaxation, enjoyment and community fellowship for the citizens of the Town of Black Mountain, neighboring communities and visitors to our town. Recreational pursuits are important to our community's quality of life. With a staff of six full-time employees and a number of seasonal employees/volunteers, we endeavor to provide recreational opportunities that are second to none. We hope you enjoy our parks and facilities!Recreation Commission The Recreation Commission is made up of 9 appointed members and is intended to act as the recreation liaison between the citizens of the Town, the Board of Aldermen, and the staff of the Recreation and Parks Department. Their primary function is to recommend policies and programs to the Recreation Director and Board of Aldermen within the scope of responsibilities as outlined in town ordinances. Recreation Commission members also provide input and guidance on the development of long range plans for the Department including direction on program offerings and the development of recreational facilities. Currently, members of the Commission are in close consultation with the staff regarding the implementation of our long-range master plan for the operations of the entire Department. Nine members serve on this commission.
