• Wrongful Death
  Other notable case involvement includes a class action suit against McWane Cast Iron Pipe Company concerning its pollution of the Village Creek watershed and membership on the Plaintiff’s Coordinating Committee for a multi-district litigation against Ephedra manufacturers for personal injuries and wrongful death. He has also worked on several mass chemical exposure cases in Lake Charles, LA as plaintiff’s counsel.
• Traffic Violations
  Many motorcycle accidents are caused by factors that produce trucking accidents and motor vehicle accidents, while others are exclusive to riders. The majority of motorcycle accidents are caused by a driver’s failure to see a motorcyclist. Other causes include bad weather, excessive speed, reckless driving, and adverse road conditions. Our firm understands that motorcycle riders involved in accidents are more likely to sustain serious injuries. Motorcycles lack the protection that cars and trucks offer; they have no steel cage or air bags to protect the rider. As a result, serious personal injury can result from motorcycle accidents such as back and neck injuries, severe cuts and lacerations, road rash, loss of limbs, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries and death.
• Fraud
  Mr. Shelby filed one of the first federal lawsuits in Alabama against Johnson & Johnson relating to ovarian cancer caused by their talcum powder products, represented injured parties in a $4.6 million verdict against Metabolife Ephedra manufacturers, and represented the HealthSouth Whistleblower in a $325 million settlement involving Medicare Fraud. Mr. Shelby also recovered $700 million in a settlement over PCB contamination and worked on a class action suit against McWane Cast Iron Pipe Company concerning its pollution of the Village Creek.

  While in law school, Matt received Best Papers awards in Business Organizations, Corporate Law: A Merger Transaction, Conflicts of Law, Family Law, and Secured Transactions. Prior to joining Shelby Roden, Matt worked as an investment banker at Founders Advisors, where he advised businesses undergoing M&A transactions or in need of strategic exit planning.

  More recently, Mr. Shelby has supervised the firm’s involvement in the BP Oil Spill Project, recovering over $200 million for thousands of businesses and individuals throughout the southeast affected by one of the largest environmental disasters in US history. He also represented Regions Financial and multiple other southeastern banks in direct litigation with BP, recovering millions in damages from the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill. Mr. Shelby also has years of experience in antitrust litigation, and served on the Steering Committee for Microsoft antitrust class action. He currently spearheads the firm’s leadership on the Provider track for Blue Cross MDL 2406.
