Established in 1983 and incorporated in 1998, First Light is a social welfare organization for the homeless, women and children. The welfare center accommodates and provides safety to more than 40 women and children. Based in Birmingham, Ala., First Light offers a range of programs, such as housing programs, overflow emergency shelter and emergency shelter. Its shelter facilities include bedding, locker facility, bath area and laundry. First Light has partnerships with Metropolitan Birmingham Services for the Homeless, Pathways and Jefferson Blount St. Clair Mental Health and Retardation Authority. It serves the local faith communities, corporations, individuals, foundations and civic groups.
