Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency is responsible for emergency management activities. Located in Birmingham, Ala., the organization mitigates as well as helps to recover from emergencies and disasters. It develops and maintains an ongoing program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. The emergency management agency works closely with other departments, such as the fire department, police department, planning department and department of public works. It also maintains the private sector interest in the emergency program.
