Insitu Group, based in Bingen, Wash., specializes in the design, development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles and tools for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Founded in 1992, it is one of the pioneer developers of long-range, unmanned, autonomous aircraft. Its typical missions, in addition to intelligence functions, include communications relay, geophysical measurements and meteorology, for commercial and military purposes. With proven combat capability, its military ScanEagle model is differentiated from other unmanned aerial vehicles due to its specialized and unique characteristics, many of which are shared by other models, such as, the GeoRanger and SeaScam. Some of these characteristics are their endurance of more than 20-flight-hours, experience totaling over 20,000 flight hours in combat operations and stealth that makes it almost impossible to see and hear the vehicles.
