The City of Billings Fire Department specializes in fire suppression services. The department provides pre-hospital emergency response, technical rope rescue and hazardous materials incident handling. Its fire prevention activities include code enforcement, public education and fire cause investigation. The City of Billings Fire Department also offers dispatch and communication services for police, fire and ambulance units. The department is staffed with 45 firefighters, 27 captains, 27 engineers and 4 battalion chiefs, as well as a fire chief. It has an agreement with the Billing Urban Fire Service Area to provide services and contracts equipment and manpower to the State Department of Natural Recourses for wildfire suppression in times of need.
