The Big Rapids Fire Division offers a variety of fire safety and prevention programs to the general public. It serves an area of more than 115-square-mile throughout Mecosta and Newaygo counties in Michigan. Located in Big Rapids, Mich., the division provides response services in cases related to medical emergencies, accidents, rescue and hazardous material incidents. It additionally offers information on smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and alarm systems. The division also provides fire inspection and investigation services for residential, commercial and industrial properties. It operates through a range of equipment, such as fire engines, water tenders, rescue boats, trucks and trailers. The division has a staff of more than five full-time and over 15 paid-on-call firefighters. The Big Rapids Fire Division is a part of the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety, which also operates a police division.
