General Info

The Lumberjack Tavern is more than just a fun place to grab a drink and a bite to eat, it’s a slice of local history and popular culture. The Tavern was first opened in 1938 as Rose’s Tavern, as was renamed Lumberjack Tavern as a nod to the area’s logging history and the famous lumberjacks. In 1952, it was the site of a famous murder, which inspired the award-winning film Anatomy of a Murder starring Jimmy Stewart. Jeff Daniel’s favorite bar in the UP, the Lumberjack also inspired the Big Bay Shuffle. Maybe you can catch owner Jack who will regale with you stories of the bar and Big Bay history. Today, you can enjoy a taste of UP craft beer, burgers, hand-cut fries, house-made pizza, and other seasonal menu items. The Lumberjack also has onsite accommodations and an outdoor beer garden. We are open for private parties, wedding receptions and other festive gatherings. Come in, grab a drink and see the outline of the body from the real-life crime scene. The Lumberjack Tavern is more than just a fun place to grab a drink and a bite to eat, it’s a slice of local history and popular culture. Great Historical atmoshere and great service, food is sub ject to who's cooking. Its a small town with lots of history and plenty of scenic views. Also if your a sportsman or women there's plenty of action, including fishing, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling, snowshoing, waterfalls, mushrooming, and just plain exploring. If your a beach lover lou"ll love the sunsets here. It's definately a one in a million places to visit. As the famous LOMA Farms is a mere 15 miles away you can only imagine what Big Bay has to offer!!
