General Info
Since Bethel Bakery opened for business in 1955 in the south hills section of Pittsburgh, generations of patrons have made their way to the shop for the bakeryĆ¢??s signature pastries, cookies, coffeecakes and one-of-a-kind cakes. With a number of years of bakery experience, a stint in the Navy behind him and a small inheritance, Morris Walsh, with characteristic determination, made his dream of owning his own bakery a reality when he and a partner opened for business during the Eisenhower administration. While his business partner left the venture within a few months, Morris soon gained another associate, his future wife, Anna.

I have been ordering cakes from Bethel Bakery for 26 years. Today I tried to order the X-box cake, with yellow batter, fudge icing and the butter cream on top, so that it would look like the x-box. I was told that the decorator said they couldn't do that. So I called back and ask if they could do it for the pizza or beer mug cake, again I was told no. This is the first time I've run into the problem with the bakery. I have ordered birthday cake with cat's, butterflies, etc., commuion cakes and wedding cakes and this is the first time I was told I could get what I wanted. I order from the bakery because I've always had great tasting cakes, services was great, and they did what I ask as far as the fudge/butter cream on top. Since I can't get a cake with a design on it that I want, they are not getting my business anylonger. I can get a plan cake with icing anywhere and it will be considerably cheaper. Too bad you've lost a customer that has been loyal for 26 years.
I ordered a pumpkin cheesecake 1 1/2 weeks before a party we were planning on Dec 5. It was featured on the Bethel bakery website. On the day before the party, I received a call stating that they were not taking orders for the pumpkin cheesecakes after Thanksgiving (not mentioned on the website). I could not believe that they waited until less than 24 hours prior to the event to let me know and I cannot believe that they did not have a manager contact me. I have been a Bethel Bakery customer for years - both of my children ordered their wedding cakes here, birthday cakes, almost all of our bakery needs. But based on how this was handled, I am led to believe that customer service is not a focus anymore - perhaps they have grown too large. Not that it matters to them, but they have lost a customer.
The best birthday cakes I've ever had were from Bethel Bakery. Simply delicious!
