The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office performs a range of enforcement duties that includes criminal investigations and investigation of traffic accidents. It maintains various divisions, including patrol, criminal, reserves, corrections, internal affairs, school resources and homeland security. In addition, the office operates a support services section that includes a fiscal management bureau, evidence collection unit, chaplaincy unit and communications bureau. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office supports and conducts several programs, including the Drug Abuse and Resistance Education, Gang Resistance Education And Training, National Youth Project Using Minibikes and neighborhood watch. It also offers services for sex offense cases, pistol permits, unsolved crimes and missing persons. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is located in Bessemer, Ala.
