General Info
The Belmont Police Department, established in 1926, is a full-service law enforcement agency that preserves peace, enforces laws, protects lives and properties, arrests violators, and prevents and deters crime. It maintains uniformed patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, K-9, crime prevention, dispatch and records divisions. The Belmont Police Department supports the Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program, which is a school-based, officer-instructed program that includes classroom instruction and various learning activities. The department maintains the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, which specializes in hostage and barricaded gunman situations and bomb disposal. Located in Belmont, Calif., the Belmont Police Department employs more than 50 sworn officers and civilian volunteers.
