The Bellingham Herald
General Info
More than one hundred years ago, in a boomtown on the shores of Bellingham Bay, Wash., The Bellingham Herald first went to press. The tri-weekly Fairhaven Herald, as it was then called, began publishing on Monday, March 10, 1890. Today the paper is comprised of nine major departments: accounting, advertising, circulation, human resources, information systems, market development, news, online and production. It employs approximately 175 people. The daily circulation is 24,425 and on Sundays 31,230 papers. In 2005, Knight Ridder acquired The Bellingham Herald and is the current owner. Knight Ridder is the nation's second-largest newspaper publisher, with products in print and online. The company publishes 30 daily newspapers in 27 states markets, with a readership of 7.9 million daily and 11.2 million on Sunday. Knight Ridder also has investments in a variety of Internet and technology companies and two newsprint companies.
