- Comprehensive ExaminationToday's modern anesthetic monitors have made surgery much safer than in the past. Here at Lakemont Village Veterinary Hospital, we do a thorough physical exam on your pet before administering anesthetics, to ensure that a fever or other illness won't be a problem. We also adjust the amount and type of anesthetic used depending on the health of your pet.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlFor those clients that would like an oral option for flea and tick control for their dogs, there are a few other products we recommend. One is NEXGARD, a chewable tablet given once a month that can be administered with or without a meal. NEXGARD may be safely given in combination with other parasite preventatives if needed, such as a heartworm preventative.
- Pain ManagementThough routine, spay (ovariohysterectomy) and neuter (orchiectomy) are major surgeries for your pet. Therefore, these procedures are taken seriously by the staff and doctors at our practice. We analyze blood chemistry for every pet prior to surgery and develop an anesthesia plan customized for your pet. Because pain relief is important to us, all surgeries are performed with the CO2 laser and all pets receive injectable and oral pain relief. Our policy is to provide the same level of care to your pet as we would provide to our own animals.
- Vomiting Treatment
- Anal Gland Infection Treatment
- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentRoutine dentistry is very important to your pet because oral disease and infection affects more than just the mouth. Bacteria from oral infections enter the blood stream and can attack the heart, liver, and kidneys, leading to premature failing of these organs. In addition, oral health can affect animals that suffer from arthritis by increasing the joint pain that they already feel. We have seen many cases where dogs on pain medication for arthritis were helped as much or more from proper treatment of the mouth as they were helped with drugs for arthritis. Routine dentistry increases both the quality and quantity of life.

- Laser SurgerySurgical Services: We are pleased to offer laser surgery as an exciting new option for safe, comfortable treatment. Laser surgery causes less pain, bleeding, and swelling while also reducing the risk of infection. This technique is more precise and recovery is rapid.
- DeclawingBecause of the coyote and cougar population here on Cougar Mountain, most of our clients with cats choose wisely to keep their cats indoors. Some cats will scratch furniture and carpeting instead of a designated post or pad. This may adversely affect the relationship between cat and human caregiver. Our opinion is that laser declawing is an appropriate procedure to preserve the status of the cat as an indoor pet.
- Spaying and NeuteringSpaying or neutering can be done at approximately 6 months of age. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations are required at the time of surgery. Also a pre-anesthetic blood screen is recommended prior to undergoing anesthesia and surgery.
- Laboratory ServicesOur doctors prefer the more comprehensive screen, because it gives them the most information to ensure the safety of your pet. For geriatric or ill pets, additional blood tests, or x-rays may be required before surgery as well.
