About Hardwood Shop The Hardwood Shop has been owned and operated by Mike Rahberger and his family for over 20 years. Prior to opening The Hardwood Shop, Mike and his family owned and operated a fifty cow dairy farm southeast of of MonroeWI, from 1970 - 1986. In 1986, the family made the decision to quit farming and pursue Mike's vision of creating custom furniture and cabinets of the highest quality. Mike is a self-taught woodworker, thus he has no pre-set limitations on designs or methods of construction. He uses time honored construction methods, including mortise and tenon, dovetail joints, and many others. The Hardwood Shop opened its doors with a focus on high quality custom furniture and cabinetry and continues to offer these services today. A few years later, Mike saw the need for quality custom trim and offers the home-owner choices beyond what is found at your local home center. We can also assist with your restoration work by building historically correct windows, doors and millwork from pre-Civil War to present. In the last 10 years, The Hardwood Shop has added interior remodeling to its line of services. Mike has done remodeling of kitchens, laundry rooms, mud rooms, bathrooms, lower levels, doors and trim. These remodeling projects can include materials custom made by The Hardwood Shop or materials purchased by the home-owner and installed by us. Starting in 2009, The Hardwood Shop is offering a new service to the Do It Yourself individual. Many home-owners have the ability to complete home-improvement projects, if they have the time, patience, and wish to save money while learning a new skill. (And yes, anyone can do this!) This service would allow you to hire a licensed, experienced contractor to come to your home and discuss your project. We would then develop a list of supplies and tools to be purchased or rented. When you are ready to begin, we would provide guidance to get you started. When you feel comfortable with your project, you can continue on your own, with Mike available for questions.
