The Bedford Police Department serves and protects citizens, maintains law and order and preserves peace. It operates patrol, detective, animal control and administration divisions. The police department has an emergency dispatch center that coordinates communication services for police, fire and medical emergency departments. The Bedford Police Department is comprised of more than 40 part- and full-time officers. It supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international educational classroom program that helps to prevent drug abuse and violence among children. The department also conducts bicycle safety workshops and Child safety seat checks.
