I will rate this experience 1 star, the lowest possible because I would be remiss if I did not tell the truth. Ron and I grew up together and I tried my very best to not only be a great friend but help him finally kill a Whitetail Buck that would qualify for the record books. Not only did I succeed in being a great friend to him but I made it possible for him to fulfill his and his sons dreams and kill several bucks that would measuring over 125 inches to meet the minimum requirements for The Pope and Young Club. I believe our history is necessary so you can make an accurate assessment for yourself. I do believe Ron had the talent at one time to meet my demands of award winning taxidermy on all my trophies. I would feel better if I thought he just lost his passion as so many older taxidermists do. But I'll never forget the time after Ron brought my out to his hunting spot West of the Waukegan airport to give my expert opinion on his hunting techniques. His Whitetail deer hunting incompetence was obvious. That year, 2008 was my 1st year back bow hunting after a long hiatus. Ron was nice enough to ask me if I wanted to hunt at his Waukegan airport big buck hot spot with him. He put me in what he believed was his least desirable tree stand and the good lord blessed me as he always does. On the very first morning I sliced a big mature whitetail buck crossing the creek that later was officially measured at 148" gross and 126 3/8" net. Ron was so mad I could not believe it. When we all arrived back at his home his lovely wife Kris broke the disheartening news to me of just how jealous Ron is of me. The more my legacy grew as the very best Whitetailer in the area, the more Ron seethed with jealousy. I want to thank Ron Levin for forcing my hand and I severed ties with him for good. Because it was through his hatred I found a Taxidermist deserving of my trophy whitetail bucks. My current taxidermist has only been practicing taxidermy for 2 years, which makes his work that much more impressive to me. He's a perfectionist and I look to grow with him. His work far exceeds Ron Levin's very best and he's just beginning! I'll be updating this review to keep potential clients informed. 2017 Update:
Ron Levin is a total hack and lost his desire to be honest and do quality taxidermy. I made the mistake of trusting him with the last giant whitetail buck I was forced to put down. David Smith convinced me to use Ron and he would be the liaison.
When I reconsidered and told him to return the tanned cape Ron retaliated with sabotaging my cape. The good lord exposed him and led me to a much better Taxidermist.
