General Info
Dr. Lim chose palliative medicine because of the complex thinking/thought processes involved in treating patients that are diagnosed with an advanced life-limiting illness. Advanced illness management allows him to practice the art of medicine in a manner that encompasses the concept of healing and preserving. As life-limiting illnesses progress, Dr. Lim embraces his role as a doctor to transition the medical care from curing the disease to alleviating the pain and suffering of the patient to ensure a good quality of (prolonged) life for that person. Dr. Lim’s parents have been his greatest influence because their actions spoke louder than words. They did not just teach by telling; they let their actions show how to live a successful life. They encouraged their son not to settle for mediocrity, to strive to do the best that he could in whatever he attempted. He gets excited about coming to work because it brings me him joy to be part of a team with a common goal to improve quality of life of patients diagnosed with serious life-limiting illness. Being able to relieve patients from their symptoms of suffering and allowing them to spend quality time with their family motivates Dr. Lim each day.His special interests include goals of care and advanced illness care planning, along with treatment of cancer related symptoms (i.e. pain, nausea, poor appetite, weight loss, shortness of breath, delirium, poor sleep quality, fatigue, anxiety, depression, constipation, and excessive drowsiness.)When Dr. Lim is not working, he likes helping with spending quality time with his family, playing basketball, and swimming. He also engages in disaster relief and community health events. Western Michigan University is Dr. Lim’s alma-mater. He is very grateful for the opportunity to serve the community that helped shaped him into the man he is today. Palliative care is a specialty that focuses on improving quality of life for those diagnosed with a serious life-limiting illness. I feel honored to go to work each day to make a difference in someone's life - by improving symptoms (eg: cancer pain, shortness of breath, poor appetite and etc) that limit ones ability to enjoy the basic meanings of life. By getting to know my patients and understanding their goals, we can put together a comprehensive treatment plan that will improve their quality of life.
