General Info
Dr. Oberlander is an award-winning spine specialist who has developed one of the largest practices in the country. As one of the few board certified neurosurgeons in Louisiana who has fellowship training in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, his services are in high demand. Dr. Oberlander offers the latest techniques such as laser spine surgery and minimally invasive procedures, but also takes on more challenging problems that require a complex fix. Dr. Oberlander graduated from Virginia Tech with degrees in Engineering, French and Chemistry. He was one of the first American engineering students to study at the prestigious Ecole des Ponts et Chaussees in Paris, France. He received his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and continued his training at the Medical College of Virginia, where he completed his Neurosurgical residency, and fellowship in complex and minimally invasive spinal surgery. Dr. Oberlander also served his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 2003-2012. Dr. Oberlander joined The NeuroMedical Center in 2008 and served as The Spine Hospital of Louisiana’s elected Chief of Staff from 2012-2014. He is currently the team neurosurgeon for the LSU Athletic Department and has an active interest in concussion prevention and research. He also has a strong interest in the design of medical implants and provides consulting to several manufacturers. Dr. Oberlander serves on the Marrucci Sports Medical Advisory Board and is a member of multiple professional organizations. Dr. Oberlander is focused on fixing your spinal complication without surgery, but is ready to use the latest cutting edge techniques if conservative measures fail. He is currently accepting new patients at The NeuroMedical Center in Baton Rouge as well as our Hammond, and Covington neurosurgical clinics.

Provided by Doctor.comI had originally chosen another provider. but my GP had recommended Dr. Oberlander and I'm so glad he did. I knew in the first 10 minutes after meeting him that I was going to chose Dr. Oberlander to perform my operation. He was wonderful in all aspects of my experience.

Provided by Doctor.comI don't think any back surgery can be described as a great experience, however, Dr. Oberlander, by performing this surgery, and using is expertise to heal the problems that I had going on in my back, has been a major contributor to giving me my life back.

Provided by Doctor.comFor two years I had trouble functioning day to day because of my intolerable pain -- I felt like my head was a "bowling ball". After surgery, I am enjoying activities and functions with my family and friends. Dr. Oberlander and his PA, Kate, did an excellent job explaining my condition and my surgery. They always took the time to answer any of my questions. Highly recommend!

Provided by Doctor.comSince meeting Dr. Oberlander last year, I met with him and one of his P.A.'s and both gentleman did an outstanding job explaining the need/benefit as well as risks associated with the ACDF. I was so afraid to have surgery for over a decade. After the COVID-19 Pandemic, as a front line worker, I have been able to return to work successfully and feel much better than I have in years. Dr. Oberlander has been a Physician that I trust and would recommend him for surgery to anyone.
