The Human Services Department, governed by the Polk County Board of County Commissioners, provides immediate and basic needs for citizens. It operates cooperative extension services, county probation, elderly services, healthy families, transit services, and housing & neighborhood development divisions. The department provides adult day care and veteran services and volunteer service programs. The Polk County Board of County Commissioners operates fire services, regional drainage, purchasing, historical museum, mosquito control, environmental resources and risk management departments. It also maintains traffic engineering and operations, natural resources, long range planning and leisure services divisions. The board offers information related to businesses for various residents.
