Founded in 1974, Legal Services for the Elderly is a nonprofit organization that offers services for senior citizens throughout Maine. It provides legal advice in cases related to Medicare, Medicaid, social security, and health care and insurance. The organization undertakes issues that involve the components of the power of attorney, consumer rights, guardianship disputes, physical and financial abuse, and pension and retirement benefits. Legal Services for the Elderly works in association with the Maine Area Agencies on Aging and offers the Senior Medicare Patrol program. It also provides educational materials, as well as counseling services. The organization maintains its office locations in Augusta, Bangor, Lewiston, Presque Isle and Scarborough, Maine.
