The City of Bangor is operated by the city s council that operates various departments to ensure the smooth running of the city. The departments include public safety, infrastructure, parks and recreation, health and welfare, land and building, public transit, finance, human resource, and civic center and fairgrounds. The public safety department oversees the police and fire divisions. The land and building department is responsible for planning and ensuring that there is strict enforcement of the city s code. The finance department looks after the city s finances and oversees the treasury and purchases. Additionally, the finance department also oversees the division of environmental and risk management.
