Best shop on York Rd. I recommend everyone-Kristen

I have been going there for a couple of years now. They are always friendly and professional. Their prices are reasonable and they are usually pretty quick with doing hair. They are also accommodating with people's schedules, and they try to make sure you get service even if they are busy.

First I want to say that I am very picky about my hair and where I get it done. I must have researched for about 3 weeks before I chose a salon. My hair is very thick and getting it braided by amatuers never works out well. But in the spirit of good health, I am working out, so press and curls are no longer an option. I first went there to get tree braids. They were fantastic! It was then that I inquired about getting kinky twists. I explained to them that I had tried it twice before and looked like a lion with a mane because previous braiders used way too much hair. Before I could finish my horror story they already knew how to address the problem. That was months ago and I have had kinky twists 3 times now. I love them!! They have also braided my daughter's hair (cornrows) and they do a wonderful job of making it look exactly like the book! We also have not had any damage to our edges which is really important. I highly recommend Sophie and her staff!

The condition of their place of work was terrible. When I first entered the shop and asked to get my hair done they gave me told me the price was 20 dollars more then what the woman told me over the phone. I had two women working on my hair and one kept burping/coughing and they kept getting up to go to the other store to the right of them. My overall experience was terrible! The hair that they used for my braids is extremely uncomfortable. Although my hair looks great, I recommend you don't go there.

I went there a few days ago. Like the other reviews that place is old and run down. The bad part is that the girls were eating Doritoes, did not wipe their hands off, and wanted to keep doing my hair. I had to tell them not to do that and they apologized. They will do a portion of you hair then, give you the mirror, and then ask how you like it. Then they will ask for your money. It just doesn't feel right to do that and it's not the American way. I got the kinky twist. They look beautiful and I had many compliments. Unfornatunately the hair feels like straw and it is hard to sleep. I will not come to this place again.
I have been a loyal customer of Taru's for over 7 years. The staff is always polite and helpful when I visit, I have never had a bad experience there, unlike previous shops that I have visited. I get major compliments on my hair styles after every visit and I recommend them each and every time someone asks where I got my hair done, I would rather spend 5 hours in Taru's every other month, than spend 6 hours in a blow-dry & curl shop every two weeks! Keep up the good work Ladies! Glenda

This place is a joke and it is dirty. I saw a girl have to return to get her braids fixed. She had the braids for less than a few days and they were coming undone already. I should have known then. My braids, I have only had for 4 days, are already coming loose. I no longer feel secure enough to wear them down. I guess I will be sporting a ponytail for the next few weeks. I spent almost 200 for a hot mess...pretty from a distance, but likely to come undone at a moments notice. I am over this shop and advise others to take their business elsewhere or you will be feeling like me. Too bad I read the previous rating too late. My lady did this scratch/pick thing to her nose. I gave her the benefit of the doubt that it was just a scratch. That place will kill your spirit and not make you want braids again. Just, NASTY!!!!

I looked at the previous reviews and I really did not want to go to this shop but I have no car and school starts on Monday. When I called I addressed the things mentioned in the previous ratings...and I was reassured that it was old and they are not the same anymore. Umm...lies!! 1. Entering the shop, it is beat up looking and dirty. There is a large pile of clutter in the back. I had to keep my things secure in my lap. I was afraid to pit it down for fear of critters (didn't see any, but it looked like the place they would hang out). The bathroom is two doors down (due to it being an old building) 2. Organization-They did not have my hair although I cancelled earlier that week. They had to combine different colors (which I had not planned to do) 3. Personal cleanliness...virtually non-existant. The young women sneezed and coughed in their hands and continued to work on my hair...what to do--they were already well into my hair..no hand sanitizer..I felt dirty. 4. The braids are cute.

This is my second time getting senegalese twists done at this salon and I am again a satisfied customer. The first time it took 9 hours but the second time it took only 5 and my braider was on her phone only once and didn't take any breaks in between. No I did not have to use the bathroom so I can't speak on that, but their attitudes in the shop are very pleasant as opposed to others I've been to. It's not the most cleanest of shops but how they take care of my hair is most important and that is they twisted and applied the right conditioning products for my scalp and for the style to look and last as long as it has without much breakage.
This is the worst shop that I have ever been to. I have been getting my hair braided for about five years now and this is by far the worst shop ever. Besides the fact that there is not a bathroom in it and you have to walk two doors down into this very nasty long hallway, the staff members are very unprofessional. A four hour braiding job lasted nearly nine hours. The girl decided that 20 personal calls on her cell phone was more important. They were loud and very long winded. After that she did say sorry but left my hair to do someone elses hair. I believe in people eating but she took a 30 minute break to eat first, that was cool, 45 minutes later she took another break because she ordered pizza. My hair was not done the way I asked for it. I am not even going to mention the condition of the shop it self. You could not pay me a million dollars to go back to that shop.
