Polk Audio produces home, car and multimedia speakers. The company s car speakers have won several awards in competitions. In 2003, nine of the 16 Team Polk cars displayed at NOPI Nationals earned trophies. Of the seven competition-eligible vehicles in Polk Audio's booth, four were awarded trophies for show car excellence. Polk Audio's tradition of thorough research and development has yielded more than 45 patents for improvements in speaker technology and performance. In 1972, Matthew Polk and his friend, George Klopfer, both graduates of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and fans of music and high-end audio gadgetry, set out to build loudspeakers by applying scientific design principles to speaker construction. Polk Audio's headquarters is located in Baltimore. Its service center is in San Diego.
