- Model railroad display. The largest permanent display in the mid-Atlantic region, with 2500 square feet of steam and diesel freight and passenger trains. HO & O scale trolleys and interurbans running from the overhead wire. The society is always interested in welcoming new members, regardless of modeling skills. Part of the club's activities help beginning members to become skilled at all aspects of the hobby. We also have plenty to keep the experienced hobbyist interested and challenged. If you are interested in joining our historic organization check out the membership page on our website for all the details. The Baltimore Society of Model Engineers is a model railroad club that was established in March 1932 making us the third oldest modeling society in the world still in existence!

General Info
HO and O scale operating model trains from past to present, steam/diesel/trolleys rolling through highly detailed realistic country and city landscapes. Details abound with interiors completed in some of the structures as well as passenger dining cars complete with table settings. The 2500 sq.ft. permanent model railroad empire is one of the largest in the mid-atlantic area, featuring two distinct layouts, one built to HO scale (1:87) and other to O scale (1:48). Beside the operating steam and diesel trains, see operating operating trolleys complete with overhead wire which provides the power for them to run. Also see static model display dioramas, featuring generic scenes as well as a typical Baltimore dockside operation from the 1950s. Additional historic models are on display as well including some which are still running on the layouts. On the walls surrounding the layouts are heralds, from railroads that crisscrossed the US in the 1950s. These heralds were produced by the railroads in their own paint shops. Additionally on display are a few railroad artifacts such as: a steam locomotive bell, and whistle from a Pennsylvania railroad K-4. Photos abound from manufacturer publicity photos to historic club photos. No admission charge, but donations are greatly appreciated, suggest amounts are only $5/Adult, $3/Child, and max of $10/Family.
