Houchin Community Blood Bank is a nonprofit service organization that provides blood supply from volunteer blood donors for the purpose of saving the lives of the residents of Kern County in California. The center has more than 65 employees providing blood donation services for all of the hospitals throughout the county, and to private cancer and blood disease treatment facilities, dialysis centers and home health agencies specializing in home transfusion medicine. It hosts mobile blood drives in business houses, state organizations, financial institutions, charity homes and schools. It offers My Blood, Your Blood program, which is the creation of a national team of scientists, physicians and educators to teach school students about the human circulatory system about blood and its usage in the body. Its lesson package includes Web site with resource links, videos for school level instructions, posters, coloring books and teacher s guide with lesson plans.
