- Primary CareIf you are over 50 years old or if you have significant medical issues you will need a preoperative clearance from your primary care doctor.
- Family PracticeIn today’s healthcare environment, more and more doctors are offering cosmetic treatments to try to supplement their income in the face of declining insurance reimbursements. These doctors may be Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics / Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, or Dentistry, but none of these board certifications include training in cosmetic injections or cosmetic surgery. Therefore, these doctors attend a weekend course that offers “Board Certification in Aesthetic Medicine”. After completing the weekend course, these doctors return home and tell their patients that they are “Board Certified in Aesthetic Medicine”. When consulting with a doctor about a cosmetic procedure, it is very important that you ask the doctor about their board certification.
- ElectrocardiogramPreoperative laboratory tests and EKG are again part of your routine annual physical exam and are usually covered by your medical insurance.
- Laser Eye SurgeryBoth approaches result in minimal scarring but have an obvious key difference: one scar is inside the eyelid and one is visible on the outside. However, because the skin on the eyelid and around the eye is sensitive, thin, and important for vision, the body is very good at healing this protective layer of a vital sensory organ. This means no matter which incision is used in your personalized approach to eye surgery, any visible scarring will be subtle.

- ChemotherapyIf you have taken Isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 12-months or are currently on Minocin or Doxycycline you cannot receive laser resurfacing. If you have healing disorders caused by diabetes mellitus, connective tissue disease, have received radiation/chemotherapy, or have a history of hypertrophic scarring or keloids, this should be discussed with the doctor prior to treatment. If you have an active herpes simplex outbreak in the treatment area, you should wait to have a treatment. An anti-viral will be prescribed for your next treatment to minimize the chance of another outbreak. We do not recommend laser skin resurfacing for patients that are pregnant or trying to become pregnant
- General SurgeryIn contrast, a General Plastic Surgeon completes a five-year residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in General Plastic Surgery. A General Plastic Surgery Fellowship encompasses hand surgery, body reconstructive surgery, body cosmetic surgery, facial reconstructive surgery, and facial cosmetic surgery. Usually, a General Plastic Surgeon’s practice includes all of these disciplines.
- Wound CareAfter your nose skin cancer surgery, the site of incision may be red, sore or drain some fluids. It is imperative that you follow the instructions given by your surgeon for wound care. This will include cleansing instructions and application of topical medicines. Keep your nose clean and protected from any injuries.
- Ear SurgeryDuring ear surgery, Dr. Stanislaw makes incisions either on the back of your ears or within the folds, depending on your unique ear shape and desired results. To reshape and pull the ear closer to your head, Dr. Stanislaw will remove excess cartilage and skin, then fold the cartilage to achieve the aesthetic results you want.

- Mohs Surgery“Dear Dr. Stanislaw, There are no words that can express our appreciation of your reviewing my situation. While you did not discover any “red herrings”, your explanation of the what is going on with my left sinuses helped me to better appreciate what I am dealing with and how to proceed. I now know that I will not have further surgery and have started rinsing 3x per day. If a significant infection develops, then the use of nebulized antibiotics will be the treatment of choice. Also, you were absolutely spot on with your diagnosis of the Basal Cell Carcinoma. I had the “mole” removed and biopsied two weeks ago and it came back positive. I am scheduled for a consult on July 26 and Mohs surgery to be scheduled shortly thereafter. I have been to so many Drs. For my sinus issue and no has provided me with the level of understanding that I now have. Again, a heartfelt thank you! All our best, Tom”
- Reconstructive SurgeryAfter completing a fellowship, the process to become Board Certified in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery is as follows: The surgeon must be in practice for 2 years, and complete 50 facial plastic and reconstructive cases per year. These cases are then reviewed to make sure they meet strict standards of care. Once these cases are reviewed, the surgeon must then successfully complete a written exam and an oral exam to become Board Certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. To maintain Board Certification, this process is repeated every 10 years.
- BotoxDysport is a non-invasive treatment and an alternative to Botox that is used to help reduce moderate to severe wrinkles caused by facial muscle contractions. Dysport won’t work for severe wrinkles or wrinkles that are embedded in the skin. It is FDA approved to treat frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet, achieving an overall smoother appearance to the skin and treatment area.
- Brow LiftAs we age, it is not uncommon for wrinkles to appear on your forehead. These frown lines can make you look angry, or relaxed skin can cause eyebrows to hood your upper eyelids making you look tired. If you are suffering from these frown lines or relaxed skin around the eyes, you can consider a brow lift.
- Eyelid SurgeryMost patients opting for upper eyelid surgery are 35 years or older. However, if droopy or baggy eyelids run in your family, you may have opted for surgery earlier. You must be in general good health and have realistic expectations for surgery. Patients bothered by lower eye bags can also combine upper and lower eyelid surgery.
- LiposuctionThe type of facelift performed contributes to the cost of a facelift as well. There are many different types of facelifts and they address different facial features. The right type of facelift for you would be determined by your facial plastic surgeon during your consultation. For example, if there is a lot of excess fat below the chin, liposuction of this area would be added to the facelift. If there is a lot of loose neck skin or if there are vertical bands of the neck, a neck lift would be added to the facelift. The more areas of the face that need to be addressed, the higher the cost of the facelift.
- RhinoplastyInjectable formulas like Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, and Radiesse can all be used for a liquid rhinoplasty. The hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm) are the preferred injectable formulas for a liquid rhinoplasty because...
- Plastic SurgeryAt Stanislaw Facial Plastic Surgery Center, we are proud to offer a minimally invasive technique that restores your youthful, glowing skin. Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as microneedling therapy, is an FDA-approved treatment that utilizes your body’s natural healing process to rejuvenate your new skin tissue.
- Face LiftA liquid facelift is a non-surgical way to rejuvenate a face that appears aged due to volume loss. As we age, we lose fat from our face, especially under the eyes, in the cheeks, and in the pre-jowl regions. As these areas lose volume, it makes the face look hollowed, creating shadows where there were none before.
- Neck LiftFacelifts are almost always performed with a neck lift. Liposuction below the chin is performed in select patients. A brow lift is another procedure often performed with a facelift. Many patients maintain the quality of their facelift results with non-surgical treatments such as laser skin resurfacing once they have fully healed from the initial cosmetic surgery.
- BlepharoplastyThe stitches on your eyelids will remain for about 5 to 6 days and it is common to have some swelling and at times, some bruising. Your eyes will look like their normal self within one to two weeks after your upper blepharoplasty procedure.
- Nose SurgeryA good candidate for any surgical procedure must be in good overall health, be a non-smoker, and have pre-operative clearance for the surgery. Dr. Stanislaw also recommends candidates have a realistic expectations for nose surgery, which he can explain during your initial consultation.
- OtoplastyChildren who have one or both ears that stick out usually undergo otoplasty as an outpatient procedure in the hospital under general anesthesia. Children 13 years and older will have the option to undergo the procedure with local anesthesia. This will be determined during the initial consultation with Dr. Stanislaw.
- Laser ResurfacingAfter laser skin resurfacing, expect 7-10 days of down time. Redness, swelling, and peeling will be experienced after the procedure. Ice can be applied if there is swelling or discomfort and Tylenol or Motrin can be used if necessary. Proper skincare is important after laser resurfacing. Keep the skin clean and covered with Aquaphor several times a day for 10-days. It is very important not to pick or peel your skin and to let it peel on its own. Picking or peeling can cause scarring. Avoid hot water, hot tubs, saunas, chlorine, lakes, rivers, and pools for 1-month following this procedure. You should also avoid aggressive skincare products such as Retinols, skin exfoliants, or other aggressive products for 1-month following laser resurfacing. Avoid shaving the area for at least 10-days. You should sleep with your head elevated as long as you have swelling. Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup can be used after the skin returns to normal (10-30 days). Avoid direct sun exposure for 1-month following the procedure, as your skin will be extra sensitive during this time. Use a good sunblock containing a minimum of 9% zinc when instructed by the doctor.
- Cosmetic SurgeryBeing a specialist in facial plastic surgery, I spend approximately half of my time performing these injections and the other half performing cosmetic surgery. All of the injectable filler treatments are administered by me. It is my duty to closely examine and review new technologies, products, and procedures as they emerge. Before I choose to offer a treatment or procedure, I need to be assured of its safety and efficacy. “New” is not always better than “tried and true”. I do not perform any treatments or surgeries that I would not have done to myself or have done to a family member.
- DermabrasionA raised scar can create unfavorable skin texture. Treatment for acne scars can be dependent on how much the scar is raised. Microdermabrasion, dermabrasion, fractional laser therapy, laser resurfacing, surgical excision, and steroid injections to flatten raised scars are often the best acne scar treatments.
- Chin AugmentationChin augmentation can be either a surgical or a non-surgical procedure that increases the projection of the chin to help add balance and harmony to your face. If you feel that your chin is not adequately prominent or is not balancing your other facial features, chin augmentation may be the solution.
- Forehead LiftIt is important to keep in mind that blepharoplasty does not eliminate crow’s feet, dark circles, or wrinkles around the eyes. Dr. Stanislaw may also perform other cosmetic or surgical procedures along with it like a filler injection or a forehead lift.
- Skin CancerIt is not easy to accept a skin cancer diagnosis. Additionally, to know that treating skin cancer may result in disfigurement or scars is also troubling. Your cosmetic surgeon understands these concerns and guides you through with explanation on its effect on your appearance and health.

- LesionsAs people age, skin tumors can become a common issue. These can be either malignant (cancerous) or benign (harmless). Some of the common benign lesions people in Hartford, New Haven, Norwalk, Greenwich and Avon notice with age include warts, nevi (birthmarks or moles), solar lentigos (age spots),and seborrheic keratoses (skin growths that could be skin colored to dark brown in color).
- Chemical PeelsA chemical peel is a procedure where a chemical solution is used to smooth your skin’s texture through the removal of the damaged outer layers of the skin. Even though they are primarily used on the face, mild chemicals or enzyme peels can also be used for the improvement of the skin on your hands and neck.
- Skin CareYou cannot be tanned, use self-tanners, or be sunburnt prior to or during the course of treatment. If you’re looking to treat the face and using aggressive skin care products such as retinols, skin exfoliants, or other aggressive skincare products, you must discontinue use at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. Your skin must be completely clean and free of any lotions, perfumes, or makeup on the day of your treatment.
- MicrodermabrasionAs we age, our skin becomes thinner and it takes on a sallow appearance. The thinning of our skin is due to the loss of collagen. There are many factors that go into the loss of skin collagen (hormonal changes, sun exposure, genetics, smoking, chronic medical conditions, etc).
