I am a landscape architect whose client consulted Brandt for a residential survey. When I contacted Brandt to obtain the survey information, they said I had to pay an associated fee and sign a waiver because the survey was not done for me and they have to keep a climate controlled storage facility for their years of survey data. Storage is an operating cost of any business paid for with current jobs. This survey is information that my client paid to have available. It belongs to my client, and Brandt is withholding. I have never been asked for an addition fee in association with a surveyor doing his job. I will never work with Brandt, so they should not have to 'store' any of my jobs. What a lame excuse to charge someone $150. It would take 5 minutes to locate and transmit the electronic file I requested. Every other surveyor I have ever contacted will share the information as a professional courtesy. You should find a another surveyor that will work with your consultants.
