General Info

Dr. Fortes is originally from Brazil where he earned his MD degree in 1999 from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. After completing General Surgery residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, he concluded his Thoracic Surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Following his training, Dr. Fortes established the Robotic Thoracic Surgery Program at Inova Fairfax Hospital in the DC metro area, before joining Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons (CTVS) and the Seton team in January of 2014. Dr. Fortes is board certified in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery.
