Diagnostic

• Dental Examination
  Dr. Williams will perform a complete oral exam and digital x-rays will be taken in order to detect any abnormalities and to check the state of any existing restorations or possible decay of the teeth. A thorough evaluation of the bone, gums, and other soft tissues inside the mouth will be performed. After careful examination and based on any findings, a comprehensive treatment plan will be created and reviewed with you to address your individual dental health needs.

  As a new patient, you’ll be scheduled a New Patient Consult where we’ll discuss step by step the services we provide, insurance coverage and payment plans. If we both feel this is a good fit, at this point, we’ll schedule your first appointment. At your first appointment, we’ll discover your baseline. This is done by taking the appropriate x-rays, first exam, periodontal assessment, and oral cancer screening. This will give Dr. Williams what she needs to develop a treatment plan tailored to fit your specific needs.

  Sealants are protective coatings that are placed in deep pits and grooves of a tooth to help prevent cavities from forming.

• Crowns
  Crowns prevent this, as well as making for a nice smile. It takes two appointments to restore a tooth with a crown. In the first any decay is removed from the tooth and it is shaped to accept the crown. Then an impression is made of the tooth for use in fabricating a crown. Between the two visits the crown is made, usually of high-strength porcelain over gold alloy, all ceramic material, or gold. During this time a temporary crown is worn. In the second visit this temporary is removed. Then the permanent crown is adjusted as needed and then cemented in place.

• Root Canal Treatment
  Root canal treatment (also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy) is made necessary when a cavity is allowed to reach all the way to the pulp. Sometimes deep restorations or trauma to a tooth may cause the nerve to be damaged to the point it needs root canal therapy, also. Once this occurs the pulp becomes infected, and can even extend through the root tip and begin to eat away at the surrounding bone. By the time the pulp is infected it must be treated, and cannot heal on its own.
