Mid-Placer Transportation is a joint powers authority. It is a separate entity from the schools it serves. Five school districts and the Placer County Office of Education are the company s member districts, and it serves two schools, Ophir and Newcastle schools. The agency was formed in 1979. Some of its drivers pre-date the agency, as they were originally bus drivers for Placer Union and other districts that merged drivers into the newly formed Mid-Placer Public Schools Transportation. Mid-Placer Transportation serves Placer Union High School District, Loomis Union School District, Colfax Elementary School District, Ackerman School District and Alta-Dutch Flat School District. The agency serves students in 14 of the 15 districts in Placer County. The service area covers 1120 square miles and includes more than 2400 miles of roadway.
