The Athens Jail Division is operated by the Clarke County Sheriff s Office of the county of Clarke in Georgia. The division is a temporary holding facility for persons arrested for criminal offenses and local ordinance violations. It is responsible for the receipt, detention and care of arrested individuals. The division maintains an operations unit that lawfully admits and releases jail inmates. Its support unit offers visitation, library, laundry, labor, food, maintenance and commissary services. The division manages a programs unit that provides educational, religious and rehabilitative services. It also offers visiting rule and visitor s dress code information services. The Clarke County Sheriff's Office provides protection services for life and property. It additionally operates administration and field and court divisions.
