Dr. Brien specializes in primary eye care for children and adults. Dr. Brien has extensive experience in general eye care, identification of ocular diseases and contact lens fitting, including RGP and specialty lenses. She is licensed by the North Carolina State Board of Optometry After completion of a Bachelor of Science degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, Dr. Brien earned a Bachelor of Vision Sciences degree and Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She completed several externships in Pennsylvania which included rotations at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA, Northeastern Eye Institute in Scranton, PA, Armstrong Eye Care Associates in Kittanning, PA and Lebanon VA Hospital in Lebanon, PA. Before moving to Asheville Dr. Brien practiced optometry in Hershey, PA and Philadelphia, PA for ten years. Her professional experience includes comprehensive eye exams and hard-to-fit contact lenses, as well as co-management of glaucoma and post-cataract surgical patients. She also completed specialized training in corneal disease management. She is active in a number of Professional Optometric organizations, including membership in the American Optometric Association, the North Carolina State Optometric Society and the local Mountain District Optometric Society. She is also a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Brien joined Asheville Eye Associates in 2013. A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Brien lives in Asheville with her husband and two children. She enjoys hiking, gardening, painting, and spending time with her family.
