- Stroke RehabilitationDr. Jauch completed a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Dayton and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (bioengineering) at Cornell University, after which he joined the faculty in the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Kansas and the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Jauch completed medical school and an emergency medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati, subsequently joining the faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Stroke Team. Dr. Jauch was recruited to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in 2008 to help develop the Emergency Medicine Residency Program, assist in the creation of the MUSC Comprehensive Stroke Center and Telemedicine Program, and eventually serve as Professor and Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine, Professor, Department of Neurology, faculty in the College of Graduate Studies at the MUSC, and adjunct Professor of Bioengineering, Clemson University. Dr. Jauch obtained his Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington with an emphasis in data analytics. Before joining MAHEC, Dr. Jauch served as Chief of System Research and the Director of the Mission Research Institute in Asheville, NC, and the National Medical Director for Neurosciences Research for the HCA Healthcare Research Institute in Nashville, TN, for four years.

- Pediatric CareDr. Madsen completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital. He has been recognized for his focus in providing compassionate care and advocating for underserved populations. He is passionate about providing comprehensive LGBTQ Health and has been focusing on building medical education surrounding LGBTQ care. Having grown up in a rural community himself, Jorgen believes that everyone should have access to quality care regardless of where they live or how they identify. He believes in patient centered care with shared decision making, empowering patients to make an informed decision about their own care.

- Emergency CareKelsey earned a Bachelor of Science at Northwestern University. She completed Physician Assistant training at Duke University Medical School where she earned a Masters in Health Sciences. Kelsey has been part of the Givens care team since 2022 and will continue providing care in all three settings. She is a proactive, forward-thinking, and inclusive physician assistant with nine years’ experience with adult and geriatric populations including in skilled nursing facilities. She has directed and delivered outstanding comprehensive patient care as the primary care provider across three skilled nursing facilities encompassing primary care, urgent care, post-acute care, palliative care, and end of life comfort care.

- Infectious DiseasesDr. Carroll specializes in providing care for women who are ‘at risk’ and considering pregnancy, or those who are experiencing ‘high-risk’ or complicated pregnancies for a variety of reasons. Dr. Carroll sees patients who are undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures such as comprehensive ultrasound, chorionic villus sampling and genetic amniocentesis. She also consults with patients who have medical and surgical disorders coincident with or prior to pregnancy, which includes heart disease, chronic hypertension, diabetes/other endocrinologic disorders, kidney/gastrointestinal diseases and infectious diseases. Otherwise healthy women who may require these services are those whose pregnancies are at markedly increased risk for adverse outcomes, such as those with abnormal serum screens, multiple gestations, recurrent preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes or growth abnormalities of the fetus. Dr. Carroll considers it a great privilege to walk with women through questions and complications that arise in pregnancy in effort to achieve the healthiest possible outcomes for women and their growing families.

- ImmunizationsImmunization compliance reduces the risk of vaccine-preventable communicable diseases for both students and staff. Prevention of communicable disease takes place through proper hygiene education and measures taught by the school nurses. In addition, the school nurses work in tandem with the Buncombe County Department of Health and Human Services to prevent the spread of diseases during outbreaks.

But Dr. Barrow eventually discovered his calling and the joys of practicing in a small rural community.

- PregnancyMaternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists are high-risk pregnancy experts who oversee complicated pregnancies. MFM physicians work collaboratively with other clinical specialists including certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, and general obstetrician-gynecologists; to keep expectant moms safe and healthy prior to, during and shortly after pregnancy. Our specialists offer prenatal ultrasounds and related screening and diagnostic tests, develop interdisciplinary care plans. administer treatments and perform surgeries depending on the type and severity of complications.

- GastroenterologyJarod Coffey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Behavioral Health Provider. Jarod earned his BS in Psychology and Master of Social Work Degrees at the University of Iowa. Just before coming to work at MAHEC, he worked for ten years at Mission Children’s Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. Prior to Mission, Jarod worked at the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center of Western North Carolina where he developed his skills in CBT interventions. He has worked collaboratively on integrated care initiatives with other professionals in specialty medical departments including internal medicine, oncology, general pediatrics, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, endocrinology, and developmental pediatrics, among others. Over the past few years, in addition to working with patients and their families, Jarod has been the lead trainer in a project that provided behavioral health providers in rural clinics with integration training to promote and offer more of the services remotely that are provided at Mission’s regional developmental pediatrics clinic.

- NeurologyDr. Gupta is an Endocrinologist with more than 25 years of experience. Initially, he trained in India where he had extensive experience with a variety of Endocrine disorders, including pituitary and thyroid conditions. He then participated in an Endocrinology Fellowship at the University of Minnesota where he conducted research on pancreatic islet cells. Endocrinology is Dr. Gupta's passion due to the intricacies of the Endocrine systems that do so much in our bodies. He finds that there is a lot of confusion and uncertainty amongst people with endocrine disorders and he aims to help patients understand their medical condition(s) and work with them to find the best possible treatment. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Gupta has lived in Asheville, NC, for almost 25 years. His wife runs a Neurology practice locally and their two sons were raised in Asheville. Outside of work, he likes to garden, hike, and paint. Recently, he picked up pickleball as a new hobby.
- AutismJarod is an energetic and empathetic therapist who loves to see kids and adults benefit from evidence-based treatment approaches that promote overall success in day-to-day life. He enjoys working with all ages of patients, but has a particular affinity for working with children, adolescents, and their families. Jarod has particular interest in treating people with Tics, anxiety, ADHD, autism, sleep issues, and working with families on effective parenting using Conscious Discipline and other strategies. When he is not at work, Jarod enjoys spending time with his family and riding his mountain bike in the woods.

- EndocrinologyDr. Weinrib has practiced general adult endocrinology in Asheville since 2002, after first practicing in his hometown of Montgomery, AL, for five years. He has long taught healthcare professionals-in-training, given professional lectures and community talks, conducted clinical research, and provided endocrine care for the uninsured in Buncombe (ABCCM), Henderson, and Polk (The Free Clinics) counties over the last two decades. Dr. Weinrib enjoys educating patients about their endocrine conditions and offering options for individualized treatment. He has a special interest in the treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, and the many forms of diabetes mellitus. He looks forward to expanding MAHEC’s endocrine services across WNC through partnerships, technology, and innovation.
