General Info
Obstetrician-Gynecologists are physicians who possess special knowledge, skills and abilities in the medical and surgical care of the female reproductive system and associated disorders. They are consultants to other physicians in these areas and can provide many primary care services for women. As obstetricians, they care for the woman when she is pregnant. They have been trained to care for both the mother and the unborn child during both normal and complicated pregnancies. As gynecologists they care for the woman when she is not pregnant and treat both medical and surgical illnesses as well as provide preventative care.As an added service for our patients we offer Childbirth classes. These classes teach the basics of the labor and delivery process, breastfeeding and a hospital tour of Mission's labor and delivery suite.Biltmore Ob-Gyn was founded in 1995 by Dr. Stacy Travis and Dr. Carole Saltzman. In 2000, the practice built a new single practice building in the developing Regional Medical Park on Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville. This location was ideal for several reasons. It has easy access from Interstate 40. Our building is located across the complex from the Asheville Surgery Center, a thoroughly modern and up to date outpatient surgical center with full Anesthesia services. Our practice is located down the street from a full service laboratory and near to several specialty medical practices, including dental, surgical, and ophthalmology. We provide surgical services both at the Asheville Surgery Center & Mission Hospital's system ( which includes St Joseph hospital ). We utilize the Labor and Delivery unit at Mission Hospital which has 24 hour anesthesia and high risk maternal medicine services. It also has a level 3 neonatal unit which can take care of premature infants or those with problems.Biltmore Ob-Gyn has an "on call" system that better serves patients at the hospital and in our office. In the past, our physicians would each be responsible for their own patients at the hospital. They would each deliver their own patients babies during regular office hours. This process would make unplanned interruptions to office patients unavoidable.
