- DID YOU KNOW? The name Mombasa comes from the Swahili word enthusiastically meaning you have everything, that your are covered. Founded with the idea and inspiration to introduce fashionable bed canopies here in the states, we do not believe it was a mere coincidence that our founder 30 years prior, unknowing of the meaning, fell in love with the flow and the sound of the name, Mombasa, to repres... ent our canopies around the world. In East Africa, Mombasa resonates with a resounding pride of having everything you need, being completely covered. We too share this same enthusiasm for our name and brand, knowing with each of our canopies purchased, your covered.

General Info
In the early 1970's, John Edgar known by his eclectic circle of friends as “Pejuta" a Lakota Indian word meaning "medicine", travelled across the continent of Africa with his beautiful new bride, Bonnie Jean in a 1957 Morris Cowley they had bought from an old retired policeman for about $150.00 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The adventures were many and the stories iconic, leaving lasting memori... es and the seeds, that would lay the foundations of what would become over thirty years later, a brand that is still thriving today. Inspired with the simple makings of an East African mosquito net, and with the help of his friend in Key West, Florida, Pejuta introduced to the fashion world a whimsical and romantic bed canopy, the MOMBASA MAGIC, that captured the attention of movie stars and the interior design world alike. Business grew and sales exploded, and Pejuta needed the expertise of a gifted manager to oversee what had ignited. Some say it was a stroke of luck and others believe divine providence, but a capable and eager young man named Niven entered the scene, and a friendship was quickly struck. Niven instinctively could make out the cents of business sense, and it soon became obvious that they should join forces. Together, a Dreamer and a Captain, beating the odds and navigating the seas of the American dream. Fast forward to today, seeds of a new generation and vision have sprouted. Life is alive and ambitious at MOMBASA. Our culture and products have expanded, becoming even more about lifestyle, more about people, and focusing on our future and leaving a lasting legacy. MOMBASA is in a unique position with a unique product that has history of helping people, especially in the fight against Malaria. It's in our roots and it's a part of our brand DNA. Our mission is to demonstrate our core values by helping people in need. We will continue to be intentional with our brand, campaigns, and the lifestyle we want to live, knowing when someone purchases the MOMBASA brand we all share in a lifestyle of helping people and engage in greater good.
