General Info
Hello, I'm Deidre Flanagan, a board certified general surgeon with Ascension Medical Group. I have a passion for the treatment of breast cancer, with emphasis on oncoplastic techniques to provide the best quality cancer and aesthetic outcomes for women. Trained and certified in oncoplastic Hidden Scar Breast Cancer Surgery techniques, I can help minimize the daily visible reminder of a breast cancer diagnosis. I also have an interest in da Vinci robotic surgery and the surgical management of diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. I believe that the best outcomes directly result from open communication and a strong team approach between patients and their physicians. A native of Illinois, Dr. Flanagan earned her undergraduate degree with distinction in Honors Biology from the University of Illinois. She received her medical degree with institutional honors from Southern Illinois University and completed her residency at the Blodgett/St. Mary's General Surgery Residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1999, she moved to the Fox Valley and joined Affinity Medical Group (now Ascension Medical Group). Dr. Flanagan is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and holds an Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Certificate. Dr. Flanagan has developed a broad and active practice, performing more than 400 cases a year. In addition, she has held several leadership roles. These include currently serving as Director of the Breast Cancer Conference and Director of the Vascular Laboratory, as well as membership in the Oncology Research Committee. In the past she has served on the St. Elizabeth Hospital Foundation Board, the Physician Governance Council, and the Medical Executive Committee as the chairman of the Department of Surgery. Outside of work, Dr. Flanagan enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. Favorite activities include waterskiing, snow skiing, shooting sporting clays, running, and reading.
