  Not long ago, one of the standard treatments for cavities and tooth decay involved amalgam fillings. Amalgam is a material that contains mercury, a toxic mineral that gave the teeth a metal appearance after treatment. Over the years, it has been found that even small levels of mercury can raise risks to your health. There was also an extensive filtration process required before dental offices could even dispose of mercury from their practices. The good news is, filling material made of strong composite or porcelain is now becoming the norm in dental practices all across America, and The Center for Innovative Dentistry and Facial Aesthetics uses materials that are completely mercury-free in all of our procedures. These composite materials are not only safer alternatives to amalgam, they also have a cosmetic benefit in that they look more like natural teeth enamel – hence the name, tooth-colored fillings. Therefore, when you have a filling with composite materials, it’s virtually impossible to detect. All of our composite restoration materials are BPA free.

  When Dr. Roland uses laser dentistry techniques to reduce the appearance of a gummy smile or create a more even, aesthetically appealing gumline, she carefully sculpts the gums to expose more of the tooth body. During the procedure there is little, if any, bleeding due to the cauterizing effects of the laser. Local anesthetic keeps discomfort at bay, and after the procedure is over, most patients go right back to their normal activities. Laser gum contouring is often combined with other cosmetic procedures like porcelain veneers to enhance the final outcome.
